  1. The deteriorating security situation in the country, which is characterized by the brutal murder of an estimated 40 unarmed civilians by the army and police force under the directive of the government led by the King. We further project an estimate 1000 citizens to have either been wounded or shot be the same security forces, including an estimated 500 mostly young people, that have been incarcerated. This represents the highest form of the disregard to human rights, the rule of law and peace, and security of the country.
  2. The ongoing destruction of private and public property and infrastructure including the mass looting of businesses across the country.
  3. The unilateral shutting down of the internet and other communication channels by the government effectively taking way citizens right to free expression and economic ass well as social activity.
  4. The imposition of irrational curfew, the banning of peaceful delivery of petitions to members of parliament and the stoppage of public gatherings without any legal basis, this constraining citizens’ rights to freedom of movement, expression and association.
  5. The loud silence and absence of the head of state whenever the nation is facing a national crisis, from the beginning of the COVID-10 pandemic to the latest political crisis.

In light of the above and the plethora of major concerns that we have, we with to advise our people, the government, the international community, and other stakeholders of the urgent need to take action that will lead to a lasting and sustainable solution to the country’s longstanding political stalemate. We demand the following on the basis in the basis on which this can be achieved.

  1. An inclusive political dialogue
  2. The total unbanning of political parties
  3. A transitional authority
  4. A new democratic constitution
  5. A multiparty democratic dispensation

To achieve the above, we call upon the Southern African Development Community (SACD), the African Union, and the Commonwealth to urgently initiate, underwrite and facilitate a genuine process of engagement to move the country forward and out of the current situation. in the immediate we further demand the following:

  1. The immediate cessation of the killing of our people and the return of the army to the barracks.
  2. The immediate restoration of civic, services such as the rapid issuing of death certificates for those killed in the past days
  3. Mandatory independent and pathologist to conduct post mortems on the deceased.
  4. Urgent humanitarian support to the affected families, workers and citizens who need basic necessities such as food, sanitary towels, baby food, etc.
  5. The immediate stop of looting, vandalism and burning of private and public property.
  6. The provision of direct financial support to resuscitate affected businesses through state coffers.
  7. The full and immediate restoration on internet and communication services.
  8. The urgent vaccination of all Eswatini’s and end of unnecessary lockdowns. Government purchase vaccines and desist from relying on donation from the Covax facility.
  9. In light of the brutal killings of our people, we call on an immediate mass stay away from work by all citizens until such time that it is safe for everyone.

We wish to end by extending our deepest and heartfelt condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones as a result of the actions of the government of this country. We stand in solidarity with you and assure you that the blood of our fellow brothers and sisters shall not be in vein.

In honoring their gallant fight for a new and better country, we announce a nationwide prayer schedule for July 10th, 2021. In all the country Tinkhundla Centers. We call on all citizens to peacefully attend these prayer sessions in honor of the departed while observing COVID-10 safety protocols.

The EU, UK and U.S. Missions in Eswatini are concerned and deeply saddened by the violence and civil unrest across the country.

We urge the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini to exercise restraint and to respect human rights.  We urge protestors to demonstrate and voice their concerns through non-violent means. Looting and destruction of property are harmful to all.

We call on both sides to refrain from violence and we urge leaders to act at once on calls for peace, calm, and dialogue.  Dialogue, respect for civil liberties, and the rule of law should be the guiding lights for all stakeholders as they work to resolve the situation peacefully and productively.

Statement by the Southern African Development Community from Friday, July 2 . The Statement did not address the suggestion by the citizens group in Eswatini to have them initiate, underwrite and facilitate a genuine process of engagement to move the country forward.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) notes with concern the reports of violent disturbances in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The disturbances have resulted in widespread destruction of property, injuries to people, with at least one death reported. SADC also notes with concern, the disruption to normal personal, community and daily economic activities, including critical Government COVID-19 response strategies, which are essential for the health and safety of the people of the Kingdom of Eswatini, and the entire humanity.

SADC calls upon all individuals, groups, and organisations that have grievances to desist from acts of violence, whilst also urging the security services to exercise restraint in their response to restore order and normalcy.

SADC also urges all stakeholders to channel their grievances through the established national structures, and the authorities to have an open national dialogue, in order to continue upholding the legacy of peace and stability that has characterised the people of the Kingdom of Eswatini, and the region at large. To facilitate this process, the SADC Organ Troika is to urgently dispatch a team of Ministers to Eswatini with a view to further encourage the Kingdom to find a lasting solution.

The Africana Union also issued a Statement urging for a peaceful solution, what must have meant dialogue .

he Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, is following closely the situation in the Kingdom of Eswatini and is deeply concerned at the ongoing political and security situation in The Kingdom.

The Chairperson condemns in the strongest terms the incidents of violence that have led to the loss of life, looting and destruction of public and private property.

The Chairperson calls for immediate steps to protect lives of citizens and their property, and urges the Eswatini leadership and all stakeholders to refrain from further acts of violence that could exacerbate the situation.

The Chairperson appeals to all national stakeholders to display leadership and engage in constructive dialogue towards the amicable resolution of issues in the national interest of peace and stability of Eswatini.

The Chairperson reiterates the Africa Union’s continued commitment to support the people and Government of Eswatini in their quest for a peaceful resolution of the challenges facing the country, within the framework of the AU’s longstanding principles of continental solidarity.
